Pune: The Kondhwa police on Saturday detained ten people, including two minor boys, on the charge of attempting to murder a mandap decorator (25) in Gokul Nagar around 10pm on Friday.

The incident happened behind State Bank of India in Gokul Nagar where Omkar Sable, a local resident, sustained serious injuries on head and left hand.

The victim was admitted to a private hospital at Katraj and is scheduled to undergo surgery for bone damages.

Senior inspector Vinay Patankar said the motive behind the attack has not yet been established because Sable did not tell specific details in the statement recorded by the investigating officer. "We suspect that the assailants ganged up to attack the decorator, possibly due to previous enmity," said Patankar, adding that Sable was on his way home when the assailants, armed with sharp weapons, assaulted him.

Prima facie investigations revealed that Sable and the attackers were known to each other. "The victim named three men among others in the complaint registered under the provisions of Section 109 (attempted murder and rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act. A police team detained ten people for their prima facie involvement," he said.

A decision to arrest or detain them will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation, he added.
