Vadodara fraudsters dupe Rajkot trader of Rs 1.06 crore, booked

Rajkot: A Vadodara-based father-son duo have been booked for allegedly duping a Rajkot-based trader of Rs 1.06 crore. The accused have been rounded up for questioning.

According to the complaint lodged by Nainesh Dawada (39), a resident of Kailash Kevalam Greenland Society on Vrindavan Main Road in Rajkot, Rajnikant Shah and his son Rushabh Shah, both residents of Bhawani Society on Amitnagar Main Road in Karelibaug of Vadodara, have committed the crime.

Dawada is into the business of manufacturing thermo-mechanically treated (TMT) bars. Initially, the Shah duo gained Dawada’s confidence by placing orders worth lakhs of rupees and making payments on time.

Dawada said he had come into contact with the Shahs in November 2017, when they ordered 28,140 kg TMT bars and paid him Rs 10.62 lakh through RTGS (real time gross settlement). Thereafter, they placed another order of 27,180 kg TMT bars and deposited payment of Rs 9.89 lakh in Dawada’s account.

However, the duo placed another order sometime between January and February 2018 for 2,22,199 kg TMT bars using an instant messenger service. And when it came to making payment of Rs 1.06 crore, the father-son duo allegedly started dilly-dallying.

“Dawada alleged that till the time of lodging his complaint, the Shah duo avoided making the payment by giving him false promises. Dawada claims that he came to know that a Bhavnagar-based TMT trader has also been cheated in a similar manner,” said an official from Bhaktinagar police station.

Meanwhile, the officials of Bhaktinagar police station have rounded up the Shah duo from Vadodara for questioning.
