Lucknow: BSP national president Mayawati on Sunday said that the dispute and violence happening over language all over the country, especially in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, is "dangerous".

"Mumbai is the economic capital of the country, with which people from all states have a direct contact. The govt must guarantee the safety of people's lives, property, and religion. The central govt should also take interest in this," she said

She added that such disputes take place when narrow politics of religion, region, caste and language tries to dominate patriotism and love for the country. "Every Indian should work with pride in being Indian," she said. Mayawati reviewed the preparations of the party organisation in seven states: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. She issued directions to party members to work towards increasing the mass base of the party in these states. She said that all the state govts should pay special attention to important issues of public interest like law and order, inflation, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and health, so that national interest is not affected.

She also talked about incidents of bridge collapse and other infrastructure-related accidents, and said that incidents like these in various states of the country and the huge loss of life and property due to them shake the faith of people.

Taking cognisance of the continuous political factionalism and conflict-induced instability within the Congress party and govt in Karnataka, just like the previous BJP govt, Mayawati said, "It is affecting the rule of law and the poor and downtrodden people are becoming its victims. Although there are govts of different parties in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the situation is no different."
