Hindu Munnani functionary hacked to death in Tirupur

COIMBATORE: A Hindu Munnani functionary was hacked to death by two men in Tirupur city in the early hours of Wednesday. The Tirupur city police secured two suspects in connection with the murder.

The deceased has been identified as V Balamurugan, 29, of Kumarananthapuram in the city.

Balamurugan, who was running a private finance firm with his friends, was the Tirupur North Union president of Hindu Munnani.

The Tirupur North police said Balamurugan was chatting with his friends in front of his office till 2am on Wednesday. Later, he left for his residence. He reportedly received a phone call from a mobile number around 4 am and came out of his house. Two men, who were waiting in front of his house, took sickles from a bag and attempted to assault him.

Balamurugan started to run away from the area, and the two men followed him and hacked him to death. They distorted Balamurugan's face with sickles. They fled the scene after the murder.

Locals informed the city police, who launched a vehicle check to trace the murderers. However, their efforts went in vain.

Three police teams were formed to nab the murderers. The police managed to secure two men on Wednesday evening. They suspect that the murder might have been the result of a financial dispute between him and his close associates.
