Hospital staff forces elderly attendant to clean stretcher
Kanpur: An elderly woman attendant of a patient was forced to clean a stretcher after her son's treatment at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Joint Hospital in Etawah district.
Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr Paritosh Shukla has initiated an investigation after the incident came to light on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday when Ram Murti, an elderly woman from Dhanua village in the Jaswant Nagar area, visited the hospital for getting cast on her son's leg following a fracture. After the treatment, a hospital staff asked her to clean the stretcher. The incident gained significant attention on social media platforms through photographs and videos showing the elderly woman cleaning the stretcher.
The woman said that the staff member withheld her Aadhaar card, stating, "If you don't clean it, we won't return your Aadhaar card."
The CMO said, "A probe has been ordered. Such conduct will not be tolerated at all. There are clear-cut directives wherein hospital staff have been asked not to force patients or attendants to perform any undignified tasks."
