Ludhiana: A 35-year-old man, related reportedly to Samrala's sitting legislator, escaped death narrowly after being attacked with a kirpan among other sharp-edged weapons by four unidentified assailants in a car near Khanna on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 8.30am on Bullepur Road, when the victim, Amandeep Singh of Bullepur village, was returning home on his motorcycle after completing personal errands at a shop on GT Road in Khanna. He has claimed in his statement that he was ambushed near the Golden Green Club by four men in a white car, one of whom was wearing a turban.

Amardeep Singh told police: "They surrounded me, pulled me off the bike, and started attacking with a kirpan, sharp weapons, and a heavy torch. They kept striking my back and legs. I raised my hands to shield myself, and one of them chopped off a finger on my left hand." He raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene. The attackers fled in their vehicle with the weapons as a crowd gathered. He told police he could identify the attackers if they were seen again.

Following the complaint, Khanna City-2 police registered a case against the unidentified assailants under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 118(2) (causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Senior superintendent of solice (SSP) Jyoti Yadav confirmed that multiple teams had been deployed to crack the case. "The investigation is being handled by two Deputy Superintendents of Police, one Superintendent, and six to seven SHO-level officers. We're examining all possible motives," she said. Police are continuing their search for the accused, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed.
