Proclaimed offender (PO) Rupam Sharma held by Malerkotla Police; linked to 50 cases across Punjab, nearby states

MALERKOTLA: The police in Malerkotla have arrest a notorious proclaimed offender (PO) who had been implicated in nearly 50 cases across various police stations in Punjab and neighbouring states over the past several years.

The accused, identified as Rupam Sharma of Surya Enclave, Jalandhar was arrested by the CIA wing at Maharona and has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the court.

Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh stated that police officials, under the supervision of SP (Detective) Sat Pal Sharma, arrested the proclaimed offender from the Jalandhar region. He was involved in around 50 cases registered in various police districts and neighbouring states.

Most of the cases, including one registered at Malerkotla City I police station in 2023, were under the Negotiable Instruments Act. He had been absconding in the majority of them.

SP (Investigations) Sat Pal Sharma mentioned that out of the total fifty cases, the accused was booked in two criminal cases, including one in Delhi and was recently declared a proclaimed offender by a local court in Malerkotla.

He added that the accused, who operated a firm named R S Agro, was mostly booked for cheating, fraud, and cheque bounce cases. Following his arrest, the court sent him to Malerkotla jail under 14 days of judicial remand.
