5-year-old gun-firing video lands Canada based woman in trouble; booked under arms act in Gujarat
RAJKOT: An old video can resurface to cause serious legal trouble in the age of social media. A woman who is studying in Canada for the past three years was booked by Gujarat police under the Arms Act after a five-year-old video of her firing a gun into the air went viral online.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Devbhumi Dwarka Police registered a case against Nandini Rudach and her distant relative, Harsur Rudach, at Jam Khambhaliya police station on Tuesday under multiple sections of the Arms Act. According to police, Nandini has been residing in Calgary, Canada, for the past three years for study.
The FIR was filed by Pabu Mayani, a constable with the SOG, following a preliminary investigation. Speaking to TOI, he said, “We received a tip-off from an informant that Nandiniben fired a shot into the air five years ago using a licensed firearm belonging to Harsur. The video of this incident is now being widely circulated on social media. We traced the video to a Facebook account belonging to Karan Gadhvi.”
The investigation confirmed that Nandini fired a single round into the air using a licensed double-barrel firearm owned by her relative, Harsur Rudach. Police stated that the manner of firing, as seen in the video, was reckless and could have endangered human life or personal safety.
Harsur Rudach, 53, was summoned for questioning and presented his firearm licence to the authorities. He admitted to lending his gun to Nandini, who fired one shot using the weapon. As a result, Harsur was detained for violating provisions of the Arms Act. The investigation into this incident is underway.
