THANE: The Thane police filed a chargesheet within 24 hours after arresting a man for allegedly stalking and intimidating a 14-year-old girl in the Vartak Nagar area.

According to police, the incident occurred on June 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM when the minor victim was walking home alone from her classes. Based on the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, a 43-year-old housewife, she alleged that an unknown person in a red car followed the girl from MRR Hospital to the Shastrinagar area and gestured for her to get into the vehicle before driving away.

Following the complaint, Vartak Nagar Police Station registered a case under BNS Sections 78(1) and 78(2), along with POCSO Act Section 12 against the unknown accused. The Senior Police Inspector immediately directed his team to launch an intensive investigation.

The Crime Detection Team took immediate action by conducting a detailed examination of CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. Through careful analysis, they identified and traced the red vehicle mentioned in the complaint, obtaining the vehicle’s registration number through technical investigation methods, said a police officer.

The investigation revealed that the accused was residing in Kisan Nagar No. 3, Thane West. When police teams reached the location, they found the accused was not present. Using technical surveillance, they tracked his mobile phone and located him in the Kalyan area. Acting swiftly, the team rushed to Khadakpada, Kalyan, where they apprehended the accused while he was attempting to flee from a bar.

The accused was identified as Dinesh Vivek Ghag, a resident of Kisan Nagar, Thane. Police completed all legal formalities, including recording statements from both the victim and the complainant while gathering substantial evidence against the accused.
