Banaras Hindu University assures girl hostellers of improving food, wi-fi quality

VARANASI: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) administration has assured the agitating girl research scholars that their problems related to Wi-Fi facility and food quality would be addressed properly.

According to BHU spokesperson, some inmates of the new PhD Women’s Hostel had complaints regarding the Wi-Fi facility and the quality of food in the mess.
The university administration is constantly in dialogue with the girl students. In this regard, some girl students on Tuesday met BHU registrar Prof. Arun Kumar Singh and raised their complaints. The registrar told them that proper efforts would be made to solve their problems.

Dean of students Prof. AK Nema said, “The girl students have been informed about the Wi-Fi facility. The work on this facility is going on and it will start soon in the entire hostel building. At present, Wi-Fi facility has started on an experimental basis on the fourth and fifth floor of the hostel, which is working smoothly. Besides, one more mess has been started in the hostel, which is functioning effectively.”

The girl PhD scholars of BHU had staged dharna in front of the vice-chancellor’s residence in the bitter cold throughout the night of Monday. The girls alleged that they were served substandard food in the mess, and there was no Wi-Fi arrangement in the hostel for the last seven months, while the annual fee of Rs 20,000 is deposited by each inmate. There was only one mess, where they had to wait for hours in a long queue to get food.
