The victim’s husband said that he suspect’s someone was guiding the assailant, and demanded a CID or CBI probe into the murder.

People started gathering since Tuesday morning at Vijaya Reddy’s house in Green Hills Colony, Kothapet. By afternoon, the crowd swelled to thousands.

During the funeral procession, angry protesters shouted slogans saying “KCR down down”, and they staged a rasta roko at Alkapuri X roads. Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat had to pacify the protesters saying they are doing their best to get justice for the tahsildar’s family. Final rites of Vijaya Reddy were performed at Nagole graveyard at 3.15pm.

Her husband, P Subhash Reddy, is a lecturer at government degree college in Hayathnagar. The couple have two children.

“At around 11.30 am, my wife said that she would go to office after finishing some work at the court,” Subhash Reddy said. “When I was at my office, at 1.30pm, Hayathnagar tahsildar informed me over the phone about the incident. By the time I reached the spot, she died. I suspect that more than one person was involved. Enquiry will reveal all the details including the people behind the murder. Vijaya never said she was facing any kind of threat. I appeal to the government, and the chief minister to at least open their eyes now, and not make insulting remarks against revenue employees. They should stop provoking people and ensure safety of revenue employees. No government employee should die like this.”

He said that Vijaya Reddy was a very disciplined person, and she never mentioned about facing any undue pressure from politicians including legislators. “The accused should get stringent punishment,” Subhash Reddy said.

Vijaya Reddy, who received best tahsildar of the district award in 2017, had finished three years in service at Abdullapurmet in October 2019. Staff of her office said she recently started trying for a transfer as she had finished three years. Before joining the revenue service in 2009 as a Group-II officer, Vijaya worked as a government teacher.
