Punjab: Farmer falls in well, rescued in Mansa

MANSA: Immediate intervention by the villagers and the district administration helped rescue a farmer who had fallen into a 20-foot-deep and nearly eight-foot-wide well at village Bhainibagha in Punjab's Mansa district on Wednesday.


Jaswinder Singh (33) had to fill the well when earth caved in and he was buried under soil at around 18 feet deep.



Soon, the farmers working in nearby farms informed the police and the district administration, which immediately sent three earth-movers to the village, which is nearly 10 kilometre from Mansa.

After the villagers informed tehsildar Amarjit Singh, he reached the spot and informed the deputy commissioner, following which the rescue operation started with the help of villagers.

Mansa deputy commissioner Apneet Riyait said that in nearly 90 minutes farmer Jaswinder Singh was pulled out safely and was immediately taken to Mansa civil hospital in an ambulance which had been stationed. Now he is stated to be completely out danger.
