“35 is the new peak”: Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles OT, says he feels better at 35 than he felt at 29

Travis Kelce is 35, and he’s in no mood to retire. Now, when we talk of the Kansas City Chiefs TE, why don’t we also mention their Super Bowl LIX rival, the Philadelphia Eagles ’ OT? There's a similarity! Lane Johnson , too, turned 35 and is in no mood to retire! 35 is the new 29 for him! At a press meet with NBC Sports Philadelphia , he says, “Now, I feel like even though I’m 35, I feel better than I was when I started(or when I was) 29 or 30. Now I feel like I’m getting close to maybe my peak. As weird as it is to say, but that’s how I truly feel.”
Ankle injuries and surgeries did not stop the six-time Pro Bowler Lane Johnson from feeling like he was at his peak ageSenior Bowl Hall of Famer Lane Johnson has had ankle injuries for the longest time - once in 2018, then in 2019 up to 2020. He was out of the seasons for most parts of them. Explaining the same, Johnson shared with Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia,
“I had the (ankle) surgeries, and so for me, the toughest year was 2021. You can go back and watch it. You can clearly see on film (that) I was very hindered with my left foot. And now, I feel like I’m getting close to maybe my peak. As weird as it is to say, but that’s truly how I feel. Maybe they need to do a Combine for guys 10 years (in the league), see how we do compared to 10 years ago.”

In Johnson’s words - “I thought about what would have happened if I went to Miami(Dolphins). Kansas City(Chiefs) wouldn’t have been bad.

But yeah, very fortunate to land here(Philadelphia Eagles), and I just think the passion of the city and the intensity and how they focus so much on the sport. I think it allows, whatever pressure they put on you, I think it allows you to be the best player you can be. So, it’s something that you can really appreciate in time, and I know I have.”
The Groveton alumnus was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles as a first-round, 4th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. In the 2024 NFL season, Johnson received a 90.6 PFF offensive grade - the best record to date in his NFL career! No wonder he feels so charged up for the upcoming 2025 NFL season!
