Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is a prominent face in the WNBA . Despite being a talented basketball athlete, Reese has dealt with a fair share of controversies ever since she was drafted into the league. Recently, Barstool Sports’ owner Dave Portnoy straightaway refused to apologise for his harsh controversy on Angel Reese. He was also labeled a racist for his comments on the Chicago Sky star.
Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy reveals why he would never apologise for his harsh commentary on Angel Reese
During a recent appearance on WNBA reporter Rachel DeMita’s Courtside Club podcast, Dave Portnoy opened up on what actually fuelled him to come up with a harsh reaction towards Angel Reese. The Barstool Sports owner did not mince his words before talking about being labeled as a racist. Portnoy said,
“I watched their entire feed during WNBA All-Star, weekend and I thought they were hilarious, funny. I thought they got Stud Buds are the best. The best. And they even like I said, people know I don't like Angel. I started hating Angel in the ring game.”
He even mentioned how Angel Reese’ unprofessional behavior on the court, fuelled him and he would never take back his word on the Chicago Sky star’s commentary Dave Portnoy further elaborated,
“When she was going around doing that and I called her classless piece of s*** that got me transformed to Dave's racist. I didn't even know who she was. I don't care who did that. I was rooting for Caitlyn. That was like the first year I was a Caitlyn fan. And I had never seen anybody act like Angel did after the game. And I'll go to my great I've said this a million times. You will never find footage of any athlete in a championship taunting another player the way she did.”
The Barstool Sports owner went ahead with comparing Angel Reese with Caitlin Clark , he said,
“And people like, well, Caitlyn did it first. Caitlyn never did. People alter her foot. Caitlyn did this like once to herself. It wasn't like she followed around and play. It just doesn't exist. People who say like Stephen A. Smith is like, well, she did it. No, Caitlyn never Yeah, Caitlyn
talked, but she never did it like that. So, whatever. It didn't matter who it was. But then that started the rivalry. And to be honest, Angel provoked it from there on in. Angel for a long time would just keep taking shots at Caitlyn and her fans.”
According to Dave Portnoy, the on-court behavior of an athlete plays a very significant role. When players start showing unprofessional behavior including taunting, physical or verbal altercation duirng the game, it only hampers the spirit of the league.
