Elon Musk has finally revealed the reason behind his recent criticism of Donald Trump. An X user recently asked Elon Musk on what made him go from supporting Trump to ‘taking swipes towards him and his efforts’. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO responded to the post, pointing to concerns about government spending. The user Headshok1962 asked: “@elonmusk please tell us what made you go from loving DJT as much as a straight man can love another to taking swipes towards him and his efforts. There had to be one thing that caused this change. What was it?”.

To this, Musk replied “Increasing the deficit from an already insane $2T under Biden to $2.5T.”

“This will bankrupt the country,” the tech billionaire further added. Musk was referring to the US federal deficit—the gap between government spending and revenue. He criticized both the Biden and Trump administrations for running high deficits, specifically adding Trump’s spending bill would push it even higher.

Elon Musk announces America Party

The exchange comes amid growing political tensions between Musk and Trump, who were once close allies. Last week, Musk threatened to create a new political party if the congress passes the ‘ One Big Beautiful Bill ’. In an X post earlier today, the tech CEO has officially announced the ‘America Party’ aiming to end the two-party system.

Announcing the result of a Twitter poll he put on July 4, Musk wrote: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”. Adding further, he said “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
