Punjab: Faridkot commissioner's vehicle hits two persons, one dies

BATHINDA: The official vehicle of Faridkot divisional commissioner Harjit Singh overturned after hitting two persons near village Lehra Bega here on Chandigarh- Bathinda national highway on Saturday. A gardener at a private institute, Umesh Kumar died, whereas another person Surjit Singh sustained serious injuries in the accident.




The commissioner Harjit Singh is also learnt to have been injured in the incident.

The locals alleged that they recovered liquor bottle from the vehicle. Alleging police inaction, they blocked the highway and disrupted the traffic.

Punjab Ekta Party leader and candidate from Bathinda, Sukhpal Singh Khaira reached the accident site and sat with protesters.

Khaira said the official vehicle had killed one person and seriously injured another. The police must take serious action against the erring persons, he said.

Bathinda Range IG MF Farooqui, when contacted said, "The commissioner was inside the vehicle and sustained injuries. The police are looking into the matter".
