Mangaluru: A prominent leader of backward communities and recipient of the Devaraj Urs Award, Jayananda Devadiga passed away on Tuesday. He was 92
Devadiga served as the General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada-Udupi District Federation of Backward Classes and was known for uniting various backward communities. He led movements demanding the implementation of the Chinnappa Reddy and Mandal Commission reports and was a close associate of former Karnataka Chief Minister Devaraj Urs.
A veteran Congressman and a skilled organiser, he played a key role in establishing the Devadiga Sangha in the coastal region and dedicated his life to the education and economic upliftment of backward
