Madikeri: Widespread heavy rain continued across Kodagu district, prompting authorities to issue an orange alert for two days as a precautionary measure. Madikeri taluk witnessed intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Monday.

The water level in the Cauvery River has increased due to continuous rain in Talacauvery, the river’s origin, and surrounding areas such as Bhagamandala. In Madikeri, strong winds, persistent showers, biting cold, and foggy conditions have caused inconvenience to both residents and students.

Several parts of the district reported damage due to ongoing rain, especially in rural areas. Fallen trees, electric poles, and landslides have led to power cuts and disrupted road transport. Many roads have been damaged, making vehicle movement difficult.

According to district authorities, Madikeri taluk has received more than the average rainfall recorded for the period since January. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain in the coming days, and the district administration has initiated necessary precautionary measures.
