Mangaluru: Two workers dead, one hospitalised in suspected gas leak at MRPL unit
Mangaluru: Two workers died and another fell ill after a suspected gas leak at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) unit on Saturday morning, sources said.
According to sources, the incident occurred when a worker entered the waste oil tank to inspect a change in oil level. When he failed to return, two more workers were sent in to check on him. All three were affected by what is suspected to be a hydrogen sulphide gas leak. The affected workers were rushed to a hospital, but two of them were declared dead upon arrival. The third worker is said to be undergoing treatment.
Sources say that one of the deceased is a native of Karnataka, while the other two are reportedly from other states.
An official statement from MRPL, which operates as a petroleum refinery, is awaited.
