Udupi: One dead, another critical after falling from crane cradle

Udupi: Two persons fell from a crane cradle while inspecting a leaking slab of a house near the PWD office on Court Hindbag Road in Udupi on Saturday (June 14). One person died, while the other sustained serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Francis Furtado (65), reportedly the brother of the house owner. Accompanying him in the cradle was Geetha (35), a domestic worker from Kalmadi, who suffered severe injuries.

Shockingly, even as the victims lay writhing on the ground after the fall, the crane operator fled the scene with the crane instead of helping them.

Local social worker Nityananda Volakadu rushed to the spot after being informed and immediately shifted both injured individuals to the Ajjarakad Government Hospital. Unfortunately, Francis succumbed to his injuries.
