K'taka: Truckers withdraw strike after government releases Rs 244.10 crore

Bengaluru: The indefinite strike called by the lorry owners transporting rice and other food grains to ration shops across Karnataka has been withdrawn after the government released a grant of Rs 244.10 to cover additional expenses such as wholesale and retail margins and transportation charges under the Annabhagya scheme for the months of February to May, 2025.

Earlier on Tuesday, GR Shanmukhappa, President of the State Lorry Owners’ Association, announced an indefinite strike by the truckers in view of non-payment of dues worth Rs 250 crore.

Strike withdrawn

Following the release of funds, the rice lorry strike has been officially withdrawn, announced G R Shanmugappa Reacting to the development, he stated that the government has responded positively to their demands, and hence, the strike has been called off. He also thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, and Minister K H Muniyappa for addressing their concerns.
