Mangaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from June 12 to 15. The alert indicates the possibility of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and high sea waves during this period.

This year, the southwest monsoon arrived in the Karnataka coast earlier than usual, making landfall on May 24 about two weeks ahead of schedule.

While the monsoon had initially strengthened, it had weakened over the past few days. However, it is now expected to gain momentum again, prompting the IMD to issue the red alert.

According to the forecast, rainfall may exceed 204.5 mm in the region, and rough sea conditions are also likely. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious during this period.
