Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy Team Up for the Romantic Comedy "You Deserve Each Other"

Two stars from two of TV’s most addictive thrillers are joining forces for something completely different! Penn Badgley (YOU) and Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) will star in You Deserve Each Other, a romantic comedy currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. The film is adapted from Sarah Hogle’s bestselling novel of the same name, offering a fresh and humorous perspective on love, miscommunication, and second chances.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being helmed by rom-com specialists Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, the creative team behind popular films like Never Been Kissed and He’s Just Not That Into You. The project is being produced by Fifth Season, along with Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron of Likely Story. Currently in development, the film has already generated excitement among fans due to the star power and the book’s dedicated following.
You Deserve Each Other centers on Naomi and Nick, an engaged couple who were once deeply in love but now can hardly tolerate one another. With their wedding day approaching, both secretly start scheming to get the other to call off the engagement first. However, as their sabotage efforts intensify, so do the repressed feelings they believed were long gone. It’s a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers journey perfectly suited for the screen.
The casting announcement was hinted at in a playful Instagram post by Badgley, who complimented Fahy’s new Netflix series, Sirens, which he watched with his wife, Domino Kirke, while casually confirming their upcoming film.
“Hot city! Hot city! So, ok I don’t usually do this, but my wife and I just finished Sirens. Ok Sirens,” Penn stated in the video. “Want to give her her flowers. Obviously there’s Julianne [Moore], there’s Kevin [Bacon], there’s Millie [Alcock], but there’s this Meghann Fahy, this newcomer, this like refreshing, gawky, beauty – love it. Love you.”
What started as a sweet compliment quickly evolved into a clever, tongue-in-cheek exchange that entertained followers. After Penn lauded Meghann’s performance in her Netflix series Sirens, the actress responded graciously:
“Penn! This is so kind. Thank you. Tell Domino I say hi. And that her taste is flawless,” Meghann replied. To which Penn responded, “Our taste. Dom says Hi!” Then came a fun little twist.
“Oops haha. Gawky tho,” Meghann commented, adding a quizzical emoji. Penn, eager to clarify, replied, “I meant it as a compliment! Long arms are so gorgeous but historically less featured.”
But Fahy didn’t let that go without a playful jab: “Chill on the body stuff.” Penn, sensing he may have entered a sensitive area, wrote back, “Whoa I’ve obviously been very supportive and complimentary, but this feels like a trap.”
Meghann’s final comeback was sharp and humorous, referencing Penn’s notorious role as Joe Goldberg in YOU: "There you go again with that trapping thing. Heard you did a lot of that on your show. I never watched it," she wrote.
