Superman: End - Post-Credit Scenes Explained: Surprising DC Debut and Lighthearted Exchanges Among Heroes Make James Gunn's Film a Hit with Fans

Hero Image

James Gunn's perspective on Superman was likely the only thing DC was anticipating. His interpretation is not an origin tale and does not depict Clark Kent in his most divine form. Portrayed by David Corenswet, this Man of Steel is arguably the most restrained representation we've encountered on screen. He has flaws, he bleeds, loves, fears, makes errors, and is as human as any of us. This distinguishes him from his predecessors. DC's most beloved superhero has become more relatable. Thus, when he overcomes the film's primary antagonist, there isn't a direct confrontation! His dog Krypto does most of the heavy lifting (Spoiler!)

Superman has successfully ushered in a new era for a fresh DC Universe. Gunn has maintained a straightforward plot while introducing a variety of characters in their new forms, all at once. Even the final scene and post-credits offer something intriguing. Scroll down to discover more about what the film unveiled and what the end credits signify for the future of the DCU.

Superman end credits and THAT unexpected character introduction
It is !
Following the climax, Clark Kent, as Superman, is enjoying some relaxing time at the Fortress of Solitude, engaging with a robot assistant that has been repaired after surviving the previous assault by Engineer and Ultraman. They are playfully arguing over the robot's name when they are interrupted by a loud crashing noise, and in walks Superman's cousin - Milly Alcock as Supergirl! She makes the most unheroic entrance. No battles, no grand entrance typical of a significant DC superhero. Instead, she appears somewhat inebriated. That's how our Girl of Steel is introduced into the DCU. She stumbles and slurringly asks, "Why did you move the door?" and then inquires, "Where is my dog?" We learn that the superpowered dog Krypto, who has been central to the movie, actually belongs to her. Krypto bounds towards her as she tells her cousin before leaving with her pet, "Thanks for watching him."

One can easily recall how earlier in the film, Superman asserted that Krypto wasn't his pet, implying their dynamic, beautiful bond was more nurturing and organic. Meanwhile, DC's standalone Supergirl film is already in development.
Superman mid-credit scene does not add anything, yet fits well
The movie also features two post-credit scenes, although they did not significantly contribute to the future of DC. The first, the mid-credits scene, showcases the iconic image of Superman and Krypto sitting peacefully with their backs to us, embracing each other while gazing at Earth from the moon.

Superman post credit scene is just for fun to leave you with a smile
The post-credit scene depicts an interaction between Superman and Mister Terrific after the latter successfully restores Metropolis, which was devastated by Luthor's pocket dimension rift. However, things are not entirely fixed. The two stand beside a reconfigured building that is imperfect. "It’s just a little off," Superman remarks. "What do you want me to do!? Do you want me to take it apart and put it back together!?" a frustrated Terrific responds before storming off. Superman chases after him, exclaiming, "Hey man, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bum you out! I shouldn’t have brought it up!" The superhero concludes by telling himself, "Darn it, I can be such a jerk sometimes…"
