BHOPAL: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old man, who resides in her neighbourhood around a month ago. The accused threatened the girl not to disclose the incident to anybody or he would defame her.

When the accused started pressuring her again to make physical relations with him, she narrated the incident to her family and approached Berasia police on Monday to lodge a complaint. Acting on her complaint, police registered a case on charges of rape and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of BNS, POCSO Act, and SC/ST Act.

Upon learning that a case was filed, the accused reportedly disappeared from the village, and police are now searching for him.

According to police, the 15-year-old girl left school after Class 9. The accused, identified as Pradeep, 35, who is married, resides in her neighbourhood. Being neighbours, Pradeep's family and the survivor's family are well connected. Pradeep was pressuring the minor to talk to him for around a year. However, the minor noticed a change in his behaviour and refused to talk to him.

Police said that on June 10, the survivor's mother sent her to Pradeep's house to get buttermilk. Pradeep was alone at home, while others were on the upper floor. He allegedly called the minor inside the house, locked the door, and forcibly raped her. After the assault, Pradeep reportedly threatened the girl, stating he would defame her if she complained to anyone.

Fearing Pradeep's threats, the minor remained silent for several days. Subsequently, Pradeep began to pressure her for sexual relations again. Recently, when Pradeep allegedly tried to give a mobile phone to the minor to talk, her sister spotted them and inquired.

The distressed minor revealed the incident to her. Later, her family took her to the Berasia police station, where a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections on various charges, including rape under POCSO Act and SC/ST Acts. When the police team arrived at his house to arrest him, they found that he disappeared. Efforts are underway to apprehend him.
