MUMBAI: Commuters at Andheri East station continue to face lengthy delays and overcrowding despite increasing demand on bus route 415 to SEEPZ. The queues for this route regularly stretch up to the ROB at Andheri station, with passengers waiting for long periods due to the heavy rush.

The congestion outside the station is especially pronounced between 8.30 and 9 am during the morning peak hours, said a commuter.

According to BEST sources, the current bus frequency on the route is described as “good” at every 15-20 minutes. However, due to the consistently high passenger demand, transport officials and commuters alike are highlighting the immediate need for increased frequency, suggesting a bus every 5-10 minutes during peak hours.

The problem is not limited to route 415. Other bus routes passing through SEEPZ from Agarkar chowk, including 545L, 403L, A39, and 496L, are also experiencing similar issues of long waits and overcrowding. Before the Covid pandemic, this route saw more than 20 Double Deckers in service, operating alongside Single Deck Buses, catering to the heavy commuter traffic. ‎

Plus the lack of proper bus shelter adds to the chaos in maintaining bus queue, said a daily commuter.
