HYDRAA chief inspects flood-prone areas in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: In a proactive effort to prevent monsoon-related urban flooding, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) commissioner AV Ranganath on Thursday conducted a detailed inspection of several flood-prone areas in the city.
Emphasising the need for long-term structural solutions, he directed officials to remove all obstructions from stormwater drains and restore their original widths to ensure unimpeded water flow during rains.
Ranganath identified Kukatpally and Jeedimetla nalas-even more than the Musi river-as posing serious flood risks, citing extensive encroachments and severely narrowed channels. He said this has led to repeated inundation in low-lying areas such as Bharatnagar, Moosapet, Balanagar, Jinkalawada, Deendayal Nagar, and Vinayak Nagar. "Everyone has a role in ensuring these areas remain flood-free this monsoon," he stressed. Meanwhile, officials completed stormwater diversion works near Swarnandhra phase 1 on the same day. tnn
