I-T raids on TMC edu cell functionary

Jalpaiguri: The income tax department conducted a 19-hour raid starting from Monday afternoon at the house of Trinamool Shiksha Cell functionary Joydeb Arya in Cooch Behar's Tufanganj, reports Pinak Priya Bhattacharya. The raid gave rise to speculation about Arya's involvement in the teacher recruitment scam .

The I-T department reportedly served a few notices on Arya, the former president of circle I of the cell in Tufanganj, for heavy transactions using his email ID and phone number two-and-a-half years ago. A primary school teacher, Arya admitted that he had ignored messages from the bank. He, however, did not speak about receiving any I-T notice.

Arya claimed he extended full cooperation to the I-T officials, following which they were able to track the IP address of the computer used in transactions of over Rs 40 lakh. "All I can say is my email was accessed from Bihar," he said.
