Inspector Inderbir Kaur, Saanjh Kendra in-charge in Punjab's Gurdaspur, arrested on corruption charges
PTC Web Desk: In a significant development from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, Inspector Inderbir Kaur, the in-charge of Punjab Police Saanjh Kendra, has been arrested on charges of corruption. According to official sources, Kaur was allegedly collecting money on a regular basis from other police personnel posted at the centre.
The matter came to light after a police official filed a complaint with senior authorities. The complaint, backed by testimonies from three victims, alleged that Inspector Inderbir Kaur was extorting money from them through coercion. A preliminary inquiry confirmed the allegations, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The arrest was carried out in the presence of senior police officials. Investigators revealed that sufficient evidence had been gathered regarding Kaur's involvement in soliciting and receiving bribes. Further inquiry is currently underway.
Sources indicate that more staff members may be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. It is suspected that others were either involved in the scheme or were forced to pay under pressure.
Saanjh Kendras serve as public facilitation centres providing services such as copies of FIRs, character certificates, police verifications, and passport-related reports.
