Man held for stealing three bikes in Trichy railway station

Trichy: Trichy city police arrested a 54-year-old man on charges of stealing three two-wheelers parked inside the Trichy Junction railway station premises over a period of two weeks. Police have recovered all three stolen two-wheelers whose value is estimated at 1.5 lakh.

Police identified the accused as M Augustin, a resident of Veerasingampettai near Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district. Augustin targeted two-wheelers parked near the chief crew controller office and another scooter at Makkal Marunthagam pharmacy outlet near the railway mail service office between May 29 and June 13. Among the three stolen bikes, two belonged to loco pilots. The other belonged to a passenger who parked his bike and boarded a train to Madurai.

Based on the complaints by three individuals, Cantonment police registered a case and were inquiring based on the CCTV footage available within the station and on a few properties on Bharathiar Road. Augustin was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday night.
