Mumbai News: Ghatkopar Birthday Bash Turns Criminal As Man Booked For Brandishing Sword, Case Filed Under Arms Act

A birthday celebration turned into a legal affair after a video surfaced showing a man brandishing a sword during the event in Ghatkopar (East). The Pantnagar Police have registered a criminal case against Imran Shaikh, Gaurav Darekar, and others under the Indian Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act for violating the weapon prohibition order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mumbai.
According to the complaint filed by Police Head Constable Bhaupatil Ghughe, 45, who is part of the Anti-Goonda Squad at Pantnagar Police Station, birthday banners wishing Imran Shaikh were spotted at various locations starting June 27.
The following night, HC Ghughe received a video clip on his mobile phone showing Imran Shaikh celebrating his birthday with friends and relatives at Lavender Bow on the 90 Feet Road in Ghatkopar (East).
The video allegedly shows Gaurav Darekar, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, draping an orange shawl around Shaikh’s neck, feeding him a piece of cake, and handing him a sword sheathed in a red and golden scabbard. Imran Shaikh is then seen drawing the sword and waving it in the air.
Based on this evidence, HC Ghughe filed a complaint on behalf of the government, resulting in a case being registered against Imran Shaikh, Gaurav Darekar, and others. They have been charged under Sections 4 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act, along with Sections 37(1)(A) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, for violating the DCP’s weapon prohibition order.
