Mumbai: The members from the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti who reached the Dadar kabutar khana to protest have been detained by the Mumbai police. The samiti had given a call for a massive protest demanding the enforcement of a ban on pigeon feeding.

The detained members who have been taken to Dadar police station said, "Where were the police when the Jain community members protested on August 6? Why wasn't action taken against them," they asked.

Social Issues Turns Political

The social issue of the closure of kabutar khanas over citing health hazards has escalated into a political issue. At the time, Jain community members and BJP MLAs are demanding the reopening of kabutar khanas, and the Marathi leaders are demanding the continuation of closure, citing that human health is paramount.

Statement Of Pramod Parte, The Leader From Marathi Ekikaran Samiti

Pramod Parte, the leader from Marathi Ekikaran Samiti, said, "This law and order situation is due to the Home Minister. Why wasn't such a police force deployed and Jain community members stopped from protesting on August 6, when they tore off the tarpaulin and fed the pigeons, violating the state government's, BMC's, as well as High Court's directives?"

The hearing on the Kabutar Khana closure case is scheduled in the Bombay High Court this afternoon.
