Popular YouTuber, family members booked in dowry harassment case

Madurai: A popular YouTuber from Madurai, S Sudarshan , and four of his family members were booked by the Theni all woman police on Friday following a dowry harassment complaint filed by his wife.

According to police sources, Sudarshan, known for his YouTube channel Tech Super Star, hails from Valayapathi near Othakadai in Madurai. He was married to T Vimaladevi, a doctor from Theni, in March last year.

Vimaladevi's family gave 30 sovereigns of gold, 5 lakh in cash, and household articles worth 2 lakh during the wedding. Later, Sudarshan demanded an additional 20 sovereigns of gold and issued threats when the demand was not met.

Subsequently, Sudarshan took possession of her jewellery, citing plans to construct a new house. When she was pregnant, she was taken to her parental home, during which time 1 lakh was given to his family. Following the birth of their child, Sudarshan's family allegedly demanded more gold and issued verbal abuse and threats against Vimaladevi.

Based on Vimaladevi's complaint, police registered a case against Sudarshan, his father Sundararajan, mother Malathi, sister Sakthipriya, and brother-in-law Vigneshwaran for offences under sections of the BNS and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act .
