New Delhi: Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi govt has floated a tender, inviting consultants to conduct a structural audit of major flyovers and provide consultancy for the construction of new culverts across the city. The project, estimated at Rs 72.2 lakh, comes with a completion timeline of 540 days.

As per the tender, the audit will cover three key flyovers in south Delhi — the IIT Flyover at the Africa Avenue junction, the old RTR Flyover, and the Modi Mill Flyover (two spans) on the Outer Ring Road — along with a culvert over the Barapullah Nallah on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

The Outer Ring Road stretch from Modi Mill to IIT Flyover serves as a critical connector for densely populated areas such as Greater Kailash, Chittaranjan Park, and Chirag Dilli. With constant vehicular pressure and recurring patchwork repairs, the corridor has been marked for detailed inspection and long-term rehabilitation.

Consultants will be required to inspect structural elements like deck slabs, bearings, expansion joints, and pre-stressed components using advanced techniques. The audit will determine whether the flyovers require repair, strengthening, or complete rehabilitation. Remedial work may include recarpeting, pothole filling, and restoration of road cuts.

In east Delhi, PWD plans to build three culverts near the newly opened RRTS Metro station at New Ashok Nagar, close to the Delhi-UP border. The site, adjacent to the Shahdara drain, has seen rising congestion. Feasibility studies and ground surveys will be conducted as part of the culvert planning process. The 300-metre stretch near East End Apartments will undergo soil testing, structural and pavement design, utility mapping, and tree plantation. The initiative is part of PWD's push to strengthen urban infrastructure and ensure safety of ageing assets under traffic loads.
