Sub Inspector suspended after being accused of extorting families of minors in North Delhi

New Delhi: A Sub-Inspector (SI) posted at Sarai Rohilla police station in North Delhi was suspended after he was accused of extorting money from the families of six boys.

According to the information received, on the evening of June 28, six minor boys left Ghaziabad, intending to visit Sikar in Rajasthan. They were supposed to board a train at Sarai Rohilla railway station in Delhi. However, before boarding the train, the boys had an altercation with some other minors. The police received a PCR call, and subsequently, all the boys were brought to the police station. The investigation was assigned to the SI posted there.

Police are probing whether the SI summoned the families of all the boys to the station and threatened to send the boys to jail. He allegedly extorted a total of Rs 47,000 from the families. Afterwards, he took the boys by car to their society in Ghaziabad and later released them.

A senior police officer stated, "We received such a complaint, after which the SI was suspended and departmental inquiries ordered".
