Survey on Scheduled Castes to begin in Udupi from May 5
Udupi: A comprehensive survey of Scheduled Caste (SC) communities will be conducted across Udupi district starting May 5, as directed by the one-member commission led by Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das. The survey aims to gather detailed data on various aspects of SC communities as part of the ongoing study on sub-categorization within the SC reservation system.
The survey will be carried out in three phases: house-to-house visits from May 5 to 17, documentation through local registration camps from May 19 to 21, and online data entry in the final phase. As per the 2011 census, Udupi district has around 75,000 SC residents.
District-level master trainers have trained 35 taluk-level trainers. A total of 1,112 schoolteachers and 112 supervisors will be involved in executing the survey. Residents are required to present either their Aadhaar card or ration card for verification. For queries, people can contact the helpline at 9480843046, said Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari.
The government has prepared a list of 101 SC communities approved by the President of India. The data collection will be facilitated through a dedicated mobile application, which will ensure all necessary details are accurately recorded.
