Telangana govt to add 7,000 hospital beds; CM A Revanth Reddy urges NRI doctors to volunteer
HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday announced that nearly 7,000 additional beds will be made available in five govt super-specialty hospitals starting Dec 9 this year. He called on doctors and specialists working in corporate hospitals and abroad to contribute their expertise to public healthcare, at least for a brief period each year, as part of their social responsibility.
"Doctors who studied in Hyderabad and Telangana but are now practising abroad, especially in the US and other countries, can give back to the state by offering their services for at least a week when they visit home," the CM said. "The state govt will create a platform for voluntary registration of corporate doctors-working in India and overseas-to serve in govt hospitals," he said.
Revanth made the appeal after inaugurating AIG Hospitals in Banjara Hills, adding that a meaningful opportunity now exists for medical professionals to give back to the community and potentially experience deeper job satisfaction.
The CM outlined the Congress govt's renewed focus on health and education. In the current budget, 11,500 crore has been allocated for health and 21,500 crore for education.
