India’s automobile market experienced a mixed performance in June 2025 as carmakers navigated changing consumer trends and supply dynamics. While Maruti Suzuki continued its long-standing dominance, its sales took a visible hit compared to the same month last year. In contrast, brands like Mahindra and Toyota recorded healthy growth, buoyed by robust demand for SUVs and MPVs. Maruti Retains Lead Despite Dip in Domestic Sales
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, remained at the top of the sales chart with 1,67,993 units sold in June. However, this figure marked a 6% year-on-year decline. Domestic sales were particularly affected, dropping 15% to 1,21,339 units compared to 1,39,918 in June 2024. Exports also saw a slight drop, although its Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) supply to Toyota Kirloskar Motor rose marginally to 8,812 units, reflecting stable partnerships even in a challenging month.Hyundai Leans on SUVs to Steady Performance
Hyundai Motor India continued to rely on its strong SUV portfolio, which accounted for over 67% of its domestic sales in June. The brand sold a total of 60,924 vehicles, with 44,024 delivered within India and 16,900 exported.
