Toyota’s popular MPV, the Innova Hycross, has made a strong safety statement by securing a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) - becoming not only the first Toyota model but also the first MPV to be tested under India’s own crash test protocol.
Top Scores in Crash Tests
The Hycross earned 30.47 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP) — both translating to a perfect 5-star rating.
During the frontal offset crash test, it scored 14.47/16. While chest protection for the driver and front passenger was rated ‘adequate’, all other critical areas showed ‘good’ protection. It aced the side impact test with a full 16/16 score, and got an ‘acceptable’ rating in the side pole test.
In child safety, the Hycross impressed with a perfect 24/24 in dynamic crash protection and full marks for child seat installation (12/12). The overall COP score stood at 45/49, thanks to solid results in simulated crashes with 18-month and 3-year-old dummies.
Tested Variants
BNCAP tested the GX 8-seater petrol model, as well as the VX 8-seater and ZX 7-seater hybrid variants. The rating applies to all variants across the lineup.
