The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi on Saturday said it will announce at 4 P.M. its decision on extending support to Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led bid to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

The announcement comes amid intense political activity in the state after the Assembly elections produced a fractured mandate. TVK emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly and is now seeking additional support to cross the majority mark.

Sources said TVK has already secured outside backing from the Congress, CPI and CPI(M), and now requires support from two more MLAs to comfortably reach the halfway mark.

According to party sources, TVK leaders formally approached VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan seeking support for government formation. A formal letter requesting support was also reportedly sent to the VCK leadership.

Political observers are closely watching the VCK's stand, as its support could prove crucial in deciding whether Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar invites Vijay to form the next government.

Senior VCK leaders held internal discussions ahead of the announcement, while political negotiations continued through the day in Chennai.

The Congress and Left parties have already extended support to TVK from outside, strengthening Vijay's claim. However, uncertainty remains over whether the current numbers are sufficient for the Governor to invite the party to form the government.

Speculation has intensified that a positive decision from the VCK could clear the path for Vijay to be sworn in as chief minister as early as Saturday evening, although there has been no official confirmation regarding the ceremony.

The VCK's announcement later in the day is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the next government in Tamil Nadu.
