572 people diagnosed with diabetes in Bokaro in a day

Bokaro: As many as 572 people were diagnosed with diabetes in a district wide screening drive which was conducted on Saturday. Individuals aged over 30 years were screened at health centres across the district. “A total of 6,048 individuals were screened in a single day, out of which 572 were diagnosed with diabetes. Treatment of all identified patients has been started,” Bokaro civil surgeon Dr. Abhay Bhushan Prasad said.

Devojit Sarkar, a consultant with WHO, inspected the functioning of the Non-Communicable Disease Clinic at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH), where diabetes and hypertension services are being strengthened. Officials reported that in the past month alone, the clinic conducted screenings for 1,227 patients.

“Diabetes continues to be one of the leading health concerns in the district,” Dr. B B Karunamay, director of BGH, said. “Tests at the NCD clinic are conducted free of cost. The people must undergo regular checkups, maintain a balanced diet, exercise daily and manage their stress. Smokers and alcohol consumers should seek support from the tobacco cessation centre if needed,” he added.
