In a shocking incident, an Army jawan was assaulted by toll plaza workers in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut after being tied to a pole and beaten. The soldier, identified as Kapil Kavad, was travelling with his cousin to Delhi airport to resume duty in Srinagar when the incident took place at the Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut-Karnal highway.
Chilling footage on social media showed several toll employees beating Kavad and tying him to a pole, according to police. The visuals quickly spread online and sparked outrage. Officials said Kapil, who was returning from vacation, found a long queue at the toll and requested the staff to let him pass as he was in a hurry to reach the airport. However, the situation turned into an argument that escalated into violence, with toll workers attacking him brutally and allegedly trying to kill him.
This incident comes just weeks after another disturbing case in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, where 65-year-old retired soldier Ramdayal Kushwaha was beaten to death by his neighbour. The victim had objected to neighbour Vijay Bind driving his car through his land, leading to an argument. Police said Vijay, along with some companions, attacked Kushwaha, who later died at a nearby hospital.
These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety and respect for serving and retired soldiers, with authorities assuring strict action against those responsible.
