A horrifying case of animal cruelty has shaken Bengaluru after a domestic help brutally killed her employer’s pet puppy inside a lift. The accused, Pushpalatha (43), is currently absconding after the incident took place on October 31 around 4 PM at an apartment in the Bagaluru area.
CCTV Footage Exposes the Crime
The shocking act was captured on CCTV footage that shows Pushpalatha violently throwing the small dog, Goofy, inside the lift, leading to its death. She is then seen dragging the lifeless body out of the elevator, showing “absolutely no remorse or emotion.”
The puppy’s owner, Rashi Poojari, who had hired Pushpalatha around one and a half months ago for ₹23,000 per month to help with household chores and pet care, discovered the act through the footage. Initially, Pushpalatha reportedly told her that the dog had “died suddenly without warning.”
FIR Registered, Accused on the Run
Following the discovery, Rashi lodged a complaint at the Bagaluru Police Station, and an FIR was registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) a provision that criminalizes intentional harm or killing of animals. The offense carries a punishment of up to five years in prison and a fine.
Police teams have launched a search operation to track down Pushpalatha, who remains on the run.

As the accused began packing to leave, Rashi noticed that several valuables were missing. Upon checking the maid’s belongings and room, a gold chain and diamond and gold rings were found hidden under a blanket. A second FIR for theft has now been registered by the police.
