BJP observes Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in state
Ranchi: State unit of BJP organised Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas across the state on Saturday to mark the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda. In 2023, the Centre had announced November 15 as Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas.
Saffron party leaders converged in Ulihati, Birsa’s birthplace, in Khunti district to pay tributes to the tribal revolutionary. Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram also met the descendants of Birsa and honoured them. Later, the BJP leaders addressed a rally which was held at Kutchery Maidan in Khunti to mark the occasion.

They also had a meeting with the descendants of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. They were honoured by draping them with shawls and presenting mementos. Many local villagers and public representatives were present on the occasion. This ceremony organised in Ulihatu became a unique symbol of tribal pride and Jharkhand's cultural identity.
“On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Jharkhand State Foundation Day, I pay my hundred-fold salutations to the struggle and martyrdom of Dharti Aaba. Long live Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda! Long live! Long live!” Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren posted on X.
A statement issued by the state BJP in the evening said Budhram Munda and Ravi Munda, the descendants of Birsa, attended a programme in Narmada in Gujarat to observe the revolutionary’s birth anniversary. “PM Narendra Modi, who attended the event, felicitated the descendents,” the BJP said.
