Call for more seats returns in Congress
Chennai: After a period of silence on the demand for more seats, the issue has resurfaced within the Congress in Tamil Nadu. Congress legislature party leader S Rajesh Kumar said in Theni on Saturday that Congress will press for a larger share in the next election. Recently, the Killiyoor MLA had said the state unit would insist on a coalition govt in TN.
Speaking to reporters, Kumar said, "I am reflecting the wishes of our grassroots office-bearers and workers. Our movement is a national movement. For more than 30 years Congress hasn't had major space in TN; since 1967, we haven't been in power. So, we should be given more seats," he said. When asked why other Congress leaders were not openly making similar demands, Kumar said, "No, it isn't like that. Yesterday too, leader Thirunavukkarasar spoke."
