The mid-size SUV segment in India is gearing up for a surge of new launches aimed at challenging the long-dominant Hyundai Creta. Automakers Tata Motors, Kia, and Renault are preparing to introduce fresh models with advanced features and updated designs to capture growing consumer interest in this popular segment.
Tata Sierra: The Electric ContenderTata Motors is expected to launch the new Sierra SUV in early 2026, marking its entry into the electric SUV market with this model. The Sierra will be available in two electric battery options boasting an impressive range of over 500 km per charge. Shortly after the electric version, Tata will also roll out an internal combustion engine (ICE) variant featuring a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine and a 2.0-liter diesel engine. The Sierra promises an all-new design and is anticipated to attract eco-conscious buyers looking for electric options backed by Tata’s growing EV expertise.
Kia is set to release an updated version of its successful Seltos SUV by mid-2026. The second-generation model has been spotted in multiple test runs and will showcase a refreshed exterior aesthetic including redesigned headlamps, DRLs (daytime running lights), bumpers, tail lamps, and new alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin will receive significant upgrades with a host of new comfort and technology features, enhancing the user experience for the segment’s discerning buyers.
Renault plans to revive its popular Duster nameplate with a completely new global model based on the CMF-B platform, which also underpins variants from Nissan. Scheduled for launch in early 2026, the new Duster will initially offer at least two petrol engine options, with a hybrid version expected later to keep pace with evolving emissions and efficiency norms. The reborn Duster aims to combine rugged SUV appeal with modern styling and practical performance to regain lost ground in the competitive Indian SUV market.
