Davina McCall has been dealt a crushing blow as her BBC dating show, Stranded on Honeymoon Island, has been cancelled after one series.

Production on the second series had commenced but has now ended, with crew members being told that the show, shot on a Philippine island, would not be making a comeback to BBC One.

Created by CPL Productions - the company behind Married At First Sight UK and Love is Blind UK - the 12-episode dating programme was initially developed for Belgian television before the BBC commissioned a British version.

Filming took place in San Vicente in the Philippines, where couples were abandoned on a neighbouring island for three weeks, reports the Mirror.

However, the series kicked off with disappointing ratings, with only 517,000 viewers tuning in by the third episode.

Many of those who watched the show complained that it was "trying too hard to be Love Island".

The cancellation represents another setback for Davina, whose ITV dating programme My Mum, Your Dad was axed after two series, despite receiving positive reviews and cultivating a devoted fanbase.

Stranded on Honeymoon Island saw couples get paired by relationship specialists, before getting stranded together on a remote island with minimal supplies to test their romantic connections.

A BBC representative commented: "Stranded on Honeymoon Island was a compelling reality dating format and whilst there are no current plans for a further series, we are grateful to Davina McCall for being our magnificent matchmaking host, the Honeymooners for taking part and to CPL for bringing the series to screen."

The decision to cancel the reality dating show follows the same fate as Survivor, hosted by Joel Dommett, which was discontinued after its debut in 2023.

The future of Rob Brydon's adventure series Destination X currently remains uncertain.

Stranded on Honeymoon Island is available to stream on BBC iPlayer
