NEW DELHI: In two separate cases, Delhi Police has rescued two boys who were kidnapped by men allegedly trying to coerce their mothers into relationships.

Early this week, a seven-year-old boy was kidnapped allegedly by a man from Haryana's Hansi who wanted to pressure his former live-in partner, the child's mother, into resuming their relationship . Four people, including the key accused, have been arrested .

Police said the woman, a divorcee, filed a complaint at the Vikaspuri police station on Sept 28 that her son did not return from school on Sept 27. She alleged that Ajay Verma (24), with whom she was earlier in a relationship, was behind the kidnapping .

A case was registered and a team was formed that scrutinised CCTV footage from near the boy's school, which showed two men taking him away on a motorcycle. The accused tried to evade tracking by switching off their phones, but police traced their movements through technical surveillance and social media monitoring.

Police identified another Ajay, a 20-year-old youth from Vikaspuri, and picked him up. He said Verma had contacted him on social media for a pistol. A country-made pistol was found on Ajay.

"Based on the leads, another team, already stationed in Hansi, tracked Verma to a farmhouse in Hisar district, where the child was found safe," DCP (west) Sharad Bhaskar Darade said. Verma and two associates Amit (18) and Sachin (20) were arrested on the spot.

"Verma displayed violent and possessive behaviour towards the woman during their time together, prompting her to return to her parental home in Delhi. After she refused to reunite with him, he hatched the conspiracy and threatened that the child would not be released unless she returned to him," an officer said.

Besides the kidnapping case, a separate case under the Arms Act was also registered.

In the other case, a 35-year-old man, enraged after a woman rejected his marriage proposal, allegedly kidnapped her three-year-old son in east Delhi's Krishna Nagar in mid-Sept. Police said Sudhir Kumar Thakur, a resident of Ara district in Bihar, lived in the same building as the complainant and befriended her two months ago.

According to police, the woman complained on Sept 15 that her son was deceitfully taken on Sept 14 on the pretext of medical treatment. "A case was registered and a team was formed that analysed CCTV footage and tracked the movements of the accused," DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam said.

A breakthrough came when the complainant spotted a background resembling Surat railway station during a WhatsApp video call with Thakur. Delhi Police coordinated with GRP Surat, arrested Thakur at the station and rescued the boy.
