Meal Timings, Capacity And Nutrition
Each Atal canteen will serve lunch from 11.30 am to 2 pm and dinner from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. The standard meal of around 600 grams includes roti, dal or pulses, seasonal vegetables, rice and pickle, providing 700–800 calories and 20–25 grams of protein. Each location is expected to serve nearly 1,000 meals daily, benefiting over one lakh people across the city.Funding, Operations And Oversight
The Delhi government has allocated ₹104.24 crore for the project. Operations are being managed by 11 agencies selected through a tender process. Facilities include modern kitchens, LPG-based cooking systems, RO water plants, digital token systems and CCTV surveillance. Food quality will be monitored through regular testing by FSSAI and NABL-accredited laboratories.Political Reactions
While the Congress criticised the initiative, arguing that subsidised meals cannot replace job creation, the government defended the scheme as a vital step towards strengthening Delhi’s food security infrastructure and offering immediate relief to vulnerable communities.Next Story
