Heavy Rains Lash Delhi-NCR Again, IMD Predicts More Showers and Thunderstorms Today

Delhi and several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) were hit by heavy rainfall early Thursday, causing severe waterlogging and traffic congestion during peak morning hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for today.


IMD Issues Rain Alert for Delhi-NCR

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain is expected across Delhi and its surrounding areas including Bahadurgarh, Manesar, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad. Areas such as Loni Dehat, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Ballabhgarh, and Hindon AF Station may experience light rainfall or drizzle over the next couple of hours.


On X (formerly Twitter), IMD posted:

"Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at NCR, Bahadurgarh, Manesar. Very light rainfall/drizzle is very likely to occur over the entire Delhi-NCR during the next 2 hours."


Area-Wise Rainfall Data

From 8:30 AM Wednesday to 6:30 AM Thursday, Delhi recorded varying levels of rainfall. Key areas reported the following:

  • Salwan Public School (East Delhi): 42 mm
  • Pusa (Central Delhi): 40 mm
  • Sports Complex (New Delhi): 38 mm
  • Safdarjung (Southwest Delhi): 34 mm
  • Najafgarh: 23.5 mm
  • Pragati Maidan: 22.1 mm
  • KV Narayana: 20.5 mm
  • Lodi Road: 18.5 mm
  • KV Janakpuri: 18 mm
  • Ayanagar: 13 m



Temperature Forecast

The IMD has predicted a generally cloudy sky over Delhi with light to moderate showers expected throughout the day. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 30–32°C and 23–25°C respectively, which is 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal.

Commuters Face Trouble

The sudden downpour during the early morning hours resulted in heavy waterlogging across several low-lying areas of the city. This caused major disruptions in traffic, particularly affecting office-goers and school transportation.
